Qigong Teachers including Churn Chi Koay with Master Wu Cheng Zhen and Master Simon Blow at the Eternal Spring Daoist Temple, Wuhan, during the 2025 China Qigong Study Tour.

My first visit to China this October was an unforgettable experience - a journey of learning, connection and inspiration through the ancient art of Qigong.

Churn Chi Koay with Master Simon Blow at Wudang Mountain

A heartfelt thank you to my teacher Master Simon Blow for organising and leading this remarkable study tour. I’m deeply grateful to our wonderful guides Jing and Shirley who ensured everything ran smoothly and took special care with my dietary needs. Many thanks to all the other Qigong teachers in the tour group who shared their wisdom, help and support.

One of the greatest highlights was studying Wudang Five Animals Qigong - the graceful movements of Tiger, Deer, Bear, Monkey and Crane taught by Master Xia Qi, first disciple of Grandmaster Zhong Yun Long at the sacred Wudang Mountain.

It was a great honour to meet Grandmaster Zhong Yun Long, a 14th Generation Wudang San Feng Pai Inheritor and Daoist Priest, and also Master Wu Cheng Zhen, the Abbess of the Eternal Spring Daoist Temple in Wuhan, whose talk about Daoist philosophy were deeply inspiring.

Churn Chi Koay with Professor Xu Feng at the Shanghai Qigong Research Institute

At the Shanghai Qigong Research Institute, Professor Xu Feng shared insights on the “Three States” and the integration of Western Medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine and Energy Field Medicine - an inspiring vision of holistic healthcare for the future.

From this journey, I’ve come to understand even more deeply that Qigong is not only about movement. It is also about cultivating the heart and mind, nurturing kindness, emotional balance and inner peace. Letting go of expectation and control, living with harmony and simplicity is part of the true essence of nourishing life (Yang Sheng).
