What is Qigong?

What is Qigong?
Qigong is a cornerstone of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Its practice includes gentle stretches and slow flowing movement, self-massage, tapping, breathing techniques and stillness. It translates from Chinese as Qi “life force energy” and Gong “cultivate, skill, work”.
Qigong has been practiced for thousands of years to support the body’s ability to heal and is a great way to release the tension and stress from modern life.
How Qigong works?
The practice of Qigong combines the well-studied elements of movement, stretching, breathing and meditation.
Its gentle exercise and stretching works many different muscles in your body, these movements not only help strengthen but also increase blood flow and circulation helping to relieve pain and inflammation.
Regulating your breathing and calming your mind can help reduce your nervous systems fight or flight response, and encourages the release of your feel-good hormones.
In Tradition Chinese Medicine it is believed that for good health, a balanced Qi (life force energy) flow needs to circulate freely throughout the body.
Lifestyle, injury and stress can cause this flow of Qi to become imbalanced and that can affect organ function and lead to disease.
Qigong can help to rebalance the flow of Qi, aiding the body’s natural ability to heal itself and support good health.
