History

Guigen Qigong (归根气功) is a modern Medical Qigong system created in the 1990s by Dr Xu Hongtao at Xiyuan Hospital, a Traditional Chinese Medicine institution in Beijing.

The name Guigen (归根) translates as "returning to the root" or "returning to the source" - reflecting the practice's core principle of guiding the body and mind back towards a state of natural balance, harmony and vitality.

Unlike many traditional Qigong lineages passed down over centuries, Guigen Qigong has more recent origins, having been developed within a clinical, hospital-based setting focused on health preservation and therapeutic application.

The practice involves gentle movements that have been designed to regulate the energy flowing through our bodies and to balance the Yin and Yang, Meridians and The Five Elements Organ System.

Lineage

Guigen Qigong (归根气功) was developed by Dr Xu Hongtao in the 1990s at Xiyuan Hospital in Beijing, China.

Master Simon Blow studied Guigen Qigong directly under Dr Xu at Xiyuan Hospital, becoming the first Australian to be taught Guigen Qigong.

Churn Chi subsequently studied Guigen Qigong under Master Simon Blow and is a certified teacher of the practice.
